The Big Day is Here :-)

Benjamin gets his cast off today!!! He is so excited. He understands this time. Yesterday he said to me, "mommy, mommy, MOMMY!!!!, off, off" while pointing to his cast. I said, "yes Ben, you get your cast off tomorrow." We then clapped. For those who have never gone through the process, removing a cast is probably worse than putting a root canal in. Not really looking forward to that part. Took almost an hour last time on the right hand. One hour of constant crying can get to a mommy. Then we had to go have a splint fitted. This was another hour of crying. I'm bringing suckers today. Hopefully this might distract him just a little. If you get this before his appointment it is at 2:45 MST so please say a prayer for us!! I took this picture this morning at the breakfast table. Say goodbye to the dirty nasty cast!!!

Hugs Momma! Maybe he'll be more interested in the tools this time. ♥

Omg, it was so great to see the video of Benjamin using his hand after pollicization, i thought to myself... he uses his hand exactly like Jarrah! Our 3 yr old had the surgery 2012 and most people don't notice that he has 3 fingers with his thumb. Jarrah was diagnosed with vacterl after birth... radial clubhand, bilateral absent thumbs, anal atresia and vertebral anomalies but at 3 years old he is thriving. he can pick up a small coin off the floor with both clubhand and his 'new' thumb hand! I have been unable to find any vacterl support groups in Australia so would appreciate your ideas, advice and input, especially where siblings r involved, Jarrah is the youngest of 5. Thankyou, it's inspirational to read of people who are xperiencing a similar journey as ourselves . Gillian
